Mouse too slow in OS X
I haven't been using OS X much recently, but when I do it's kind of painful.
In particular, the mouse is too slow.

On Windows I'm using the Logitech SetPoint drviers and I have the mouse speed cranked way up.

On OS X I have the mouse speed turned up as high as it can go, and then I have Mouse Zoom installed to increase the top speed even more. The problem? Since my laptop screen is only 1024 across anyway, the top speed doesn't matter as much as the acceleration curve. And the acceleration curve is "slow".

I haven't tried any of those 3rd party pan-USB mouse drivers yet, if only because I don't want to pay the ~$20, but maybe I ought to take a look.

It just occurred to me that I haven't really been affected by this because I am still using the mouse that came with my Moonie drawing tablet, with absolute positioning turned on.

I had this exact issue when I had to use L.'s laptop for a class I was taking. Found that same article too. Drove me absolutely friggin' around the bend.

Then I got USB Overdrive. It kicked acceleration curve butt. And although it's technically shareware, it doesn't actually have any limitations on use. If I were going to keep using a Mac on any sort of regular basis, I'd pay for the thing in no time flat. Really, it's that good.

I'm trying it out now; the speed is good, though I still have to tweak it, and the button mapping is much more flexible than what LCC provides.
